ABOUT
Sean Warren Karlen Turner was born in 1990 in Mesquite, Texas. His first composition, The Iron Ring, took him most of high school to complete, during which time he taught himself the music theory necessary to complete the piece. Sean attended the University of North Texas to study music education and composition and finished his Bachelor of Arts in music education at Texas Woman's University in 2015. Sean student taught at Poteet High School in Mesquite and currently works as Director of Bands at Inspired Vision Academy Secondary, in Dallas.
Sean's music is characterized by dense orchestration, lots of percussion, instrumental solos, rock and roll influence, extended jazz harmony and occasional post-tonal moments. His slow movements frequently feature flowing harmony and gentle melody; his faster movements showcase driving rhythm, syncopation and abrupt meter changes, creating a limping, staggering feel. His more advanced choral works are marked by pandiatonicism and close harmony, building tension to a near breaking point as it is resolved. Sean has studied composition at the University of North Texas with Jay Walls, Sarah Summar and Paul Thomas.
In addition to his concert works, Sean is an active marching band arranger, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and serves as narrator, frequent voice actor and primary composer for the comedy-horror podcast Today's Lucky Winner.
Sean currently lives in Mesquite, Texas, with his cat, Caoimhe, and is engaged to Molly Fockler, who is much cooler than he is.
